3x modern vases in black glazed ceramics from Doña Rosa pottery of Oaxaca, Mexico. Includes tall square vase with centre detail (approximately H:340mm), curved flat slab vase (approximately H:480mm) and cylindrical curved vase (approximately H:540mm) The black gloss on the Oaxacan pottery is achieved by burnishing with quartz stone before final firing, a process perfected by Rosa Real Mateo (1900-80) who is more affectionately known as Doña Rosa. These items are all from the Doña Rosa Pottery in Oaxaca (pronounced Wahaka) still operated by her descendants. Since the majority of inhabitants in Guatemala are descendant from the Mayan culture, this is reflected in their craft work. Their pottery is mostly fired at low temperature so is not suitable for placing where it is exposed to the elements. #624
