Black clay ceramic figurines from Doña Rosa pottery of Oaxaca, Mexico. Includes miniature round bottom pots and mini jugs approximately 30-50mm tall, 1x fish figurine, 1x cat figurine. The black gloss on the Oaxacan pottery is achieved by burnishing with quartz stone before final firing, a process perfected by Rosa Real Mateo (1900-80) who is more affectionately known as Doña Rosa. These items are all from the Doña Rosa Pottery in Oaxaca (pronounced Wahaka) still operated by her descendants. Since the majority of inhabitants in Guatemala are descendant from the Mayan culture, this is reflected in their craft work. Their pottery is mostly fired at low temperature so is not suitable for placing where it is exposed to the elements. #624
